Scuba certification is growing in popularity, and we can’t tell you how much people ask us how much scuba certification costs. The answer depends on which options you choose. In this brief post, we’ll break down the costs into three parts. If you’re want to skip the context and get straight to the numbers, check out our general scuba lessons.

Part 1 – Academics

The first portion of dive certification is the academic component, in which you’ll learn the basics to get you started on your diving journey. If you choose to complete this portion online, the charge will be $185. For a physical textbook and DVD, the price is $146.

Part 2 – Pool Dives

In the next portion of your training, you’ll practice using your equipment in our swimming pool. The pool dive portion is $190 for adults and $205 for children, as the classes are smaller. If you prefer to complete this portion at another facility, you’ll be subject to their pricing.

Part 3 – Open Water Dives

Open water diving is the final component of your scuba diving certification; you’ll need to complete a total of four dives. We have a partnership with the Denver Aquarium, where you can complete two of your four dives for $275. You’ll need to complete the other two dives elsewhere, for instance perhaps at the Homestead Crater in Utah or the Blue Hole in New Mexico. For two dives, the price at these locations is $120. If you will be doing all four of your dives at one of these spots, the price is $220.

Scuba Gear

Once you have completed your beginner certification, you’ll need to decide if you wish to purchase scuba gear of your own or rent equipment for your future dives. As is to be expected, renting equipment is more affordable, but the costs can add up over time if you plan on diving frequently. Frequent divers may wish to purchase some or all of their gear to save money over time. The costs for scuba gear will depend on the specific gear you choose.
