Our group adventure to the Cocos Island aboard the Undersea Hunter, Argo was a once in a lifetime experience. The group of 16 divers set sail on June 23rd from Costa Rica for a 36 hour very smooth boat ride to the world famous Cocos Island for some incredible diving, turtle and shark research. Joined by Dr. Alex Antoniou of Fins Attached and Randall Arauz of the Pretoma Organization we were all in high hopes of tagging hammerhead sharks and green sea turtles to further the research of these incredible creatures.
With all the efforts of a great crew aboard the Argo, divers ranging in ages 16 to 50+, we were able to tag six hammerhead sharks, 1 Galapagos shark and 10 green sea turtles. We also had the pleasure of playing and diving with a small group of bottle-nose dolphin towards the end of our trip.
One of the many unique features with the Argo is the DeepSee three man submarine. You can take a dive into the deep blue to “Everest” found at 330 feet or go beyond to a maximum dive of 1000 feet. Creatures you will see on this adventure are hammerhead sharks, Mobula Rays, tons of green moray eels, octopus, red lipped bat fish as well as many translucent fish around 600 to 1000 feet.
If you are seeking adventure and one of the best live-aboard experiences, I highly recommend a trip to the Cocos Island aboard the Undersea Hunter, Argo. Jojo and his entire crew make sure you have the best experience possible. You can even spend an evening playing “Rock Band” with the crew, if you dare. Watch out though, Felipe plays a “mean”, “NO STRINGS” Play Station guitar. Now I know what they all do while we are asleep at night.
