While many people think that means ski season is here, the truth is that now is the time people are planning their vacations to the islands…… to go scuba diving! As you gear up for your tropical winter vacation it’s ideal to have your diving toys before you go. If you don’t already own them it’s a good idea to rent quality diving equipment before you go. This gives you an opportunity to try things out in a swimming pool before you dip your toes into the warm waters of the Caribbean, South Pacific or Central America.
Masks
The right mask can make a difference in the quality of your dive. After all, this is your window to the underwater world. There are plenty of masks to choose from and renting a mask gives you an opportunity to try out different styles to find the one that works best for you.
Fins
Like masks, fins come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. Some are hard and some are flexible. Renting fins gives you a chance to find which style works best for your swimming style and the type of dives you want to make.

Dive computers allow you to enjoy the dive without having to constantly calculate how much air you have left, how deep you are, how much time you need to decompress, etc. While it is always advisable to buy a dive computer before you head off to the airport, renting a dive computer gives you a chance to use a computer, get a feel for how it works, when the rubber hits the water.
Exposure Suits
A well-fitting wetsuit is a diver’s best friend. It provides warmth and protects the skin from possible abrasions and sunburn. If you’re losing weight, gaining weight, or growing taller, then buying a wetsuit could be a waste of money. If your body is changing, renting a suit ensures the perfect fit each and every time you dive.
Regulators
Regulators are a basic piece of diving equipment that many new divers opt to rent instead of buy. Renting a regulator will save you money as you get your feet wet with this new hobby.
BCD’s
A properly fitting buoyancy compensator can easily make the difference between a good dive and a terrible dive. And a quality rental/travel-friendly BCD won’t tip the scale and cost you a day of diving in the islands.
When you stop in for your scuba gear rental, don’t forget to buy some accessories as you rent diving equipment for your winter vacation. Cameras such as GoPro’s, gear bags, flashlights, and signal kits will enhance your experience and increase your enjoyment of the dive. Finally, when you have your rental and accessories, always take your gear for a free test dip in the A1 Scuba onsite pool before you go, to ensure that everything fits and works the way it is supposed to.
